Compulsory Third Party (CTP) insurance is required for registered vehicles and generally covers injuries to people caused by a motor vehicle crash, including drivers, passengers, pedestrians and other road users. It usually does not cover damage to cars or other property, so you may need separate comprehensive or third party property insurance for that. CTP arrangements differ between states and territories: it may be included with registration or, in some places such as NSW, you choose an approved insurer when registering. Check your state or territory’s transport authority or the relevant government website for the rules that apply to your vehicle.
